POPIA Notice
Last updated: 15 July 2026 · Version 1.0
This notice explains how Seekopro processes personal information under South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) — what we collect, why, and the rights you have over it. It is the POPIA-specific summary of our full Privacy Policy, which governs Seekopro’s data practices in full and takes precedence for anything not covered here.
Responsible party
Seekopro is operated by Nu-Some Pty Ltd, a company registered in South Africa. We are the “responsible party” under POPIA for the personal information described here.
Our appointed Information Officer can be reached at privacy@seekopro.com for any privacy question, complaint, or rights request.
Your data is stored and processed on Supabase, in the eu-central-2 region (Zurich, Switzerland).
What personal information we collect
We collect only what’s needed to run the marketplace:
- Account data — name, surname, and email address.
- Profile data — profile photo (optional), city, country, and province (optional).
- Business data (for providers) — business name, description, category, and a location at a precision you choose.
- Contact data — phone number, stored separately and visible only to you and Seekopro staff.
- Booking data — service booked, date/time, status, amount, and currency.
- Communication data — messages sent through the platform.
- Review data — star ratings and comments against a completed booking.
- Location data — device GPS coordinates, requested only when you use “Near me”; not stored.
- Technical and usage data — a session identifier and anonymised view counts.
The full breakdown of every category, including business billing data, is in the Privacy Policy’s “What data we collect” section.
Lawful basis for processing
Under POPIA, every category above is collected for one of these reasons:
- Performing our contract with you — account data, booking data, and communication data, so the marketplace actually works.
- Our legitimate interests — technical data, usage data, and fraud/bot prevention, to keep the platform working safely.
- Legal obligation — retaining transaction records as required by tax and consumer-protection law.
- Your consent — location data, requested only at the moment you use a location feature.
Your rights as a data subject
Under POPIA, you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct information that’s inaccurate or out of date.
- Delete your data (see Deleting your account in the Privacy Policy).
- Request a copy of your data in a portable format.
- Object to certain processing of your data.
- Withdraw consent, where processing is based on consent (e.g. location access).
- Lodge a complaint with South Africa’s Information Regulator.
To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@seekopro.com, or use the account deletion feature at Account → Security → Delete my account.
Cross-border transfers
Your data is processed in Switzerland (Supabase) and in the United States (Vercel, Resend, Google, hCaptcha). Where data leaves South Africa, the transfer is covered by Standard Contractual Clauses or an equivalent adequacy mechanism recognised under POPIA.
Security incidents
If a security incident affects your personal information, we will notify affected users and South Africa’s Information Regulator within 72 hours of discovering it, as required by POPIA.
